Main Ingredients

  • 1 can Young Jackfruit (20 oz) Drained and rinsed; can also use fresh.
  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour For coating; can substitute with gluten-free flour.
  • 1/2 cup Cornmeal Adds extra crunch; optional.
  • 1 tsp Spices (Paprika, Cayenne Pepper, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder) Adjust spices to taste.
  • 1 tsp Salt Enhances flavor; adjust if desired.
  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper Freshly cracked gives the best flavor.
  • 1 cup Plant-Based Milk Soy, almond, or oat milk works well.
  • Vegetable Oil For frying; use a neutral oil like canola or sunflower.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Drain and rinse the young jackfruit, then chop it into smaller pieces.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, spices, salt, and black pepper.
  • In another bowl, pour the plant-based milk.
  • Dip each piece of jackfruit into the milk and then coat it in the flour mixture.

Cooking

  • Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat.
  • Fry the coated jackfruit pieces until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes on each side.
  • Remove from oil and let drain on paper towels.

Serving

  • Serve over rice, in sandwiches, or with slaw.

Notes

Ensure jackfruit is chopped into evenly sized pieces for consistent cooking. Let the jackfruit marinate in spices for at least 30 minutes for deeper flavor. Use a thermometer to ensure oil reaches around 350°F before frying.
