Ingredients

Protein
  • 1 lb beef strips (sirloin or ribeye) Thinly sliced across the grain for best texture.
Marinade & Aromatics
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
Sauce
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce (optional) For depth of flavor.
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch To thicken the sauce.
Oils & Veggies
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (for searing)
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil (for onions)
  • 1 large onion, sliced Sautéed until soft.
Seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil. Toss the beef strips in the marinade and let sit for 10–15 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and sauté until soft and slightly caramelized. Season with salt and pepper, then remove from the pan and set aside.
Cooking
  1. In the same pan, heat 2 tbsp vegetable oil over high heat. Add the marinated beef strips and stir-fry for 2–3 minutes until browned.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch.
  3. Pour the sauce over the beef and let simmer until it thickens. Add the sautéed onions back into the pan, stirring to combine.
  4. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

Slice beef thin across the grain for tender, easy-to-chew strips. Pat meat dry before searing for a better brown crust.
