Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
  • Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Stir in the dried cranberries and orange zest.
  • Combine the sour cream, egg, and vanilla extract in a separate bowl.
  • Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times.
  • Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch thick and cut into wedges.
  • Place the scones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes or until lightly golden.
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving.
