Preparation

  • In a bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla.
  • Combine the wet and dry ingredients until just mixed; do not overmix.
  • Heat oil in a deep pan to 375°F (190°C).

Frying

  • Use a piping bag or squeeze bottle to pipe the batter into the hot oil in fry shapes.
  • Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side; remove and drain on paper towels.
  • Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm.

Notes

Maintain oil temperature near 375°F so fries cook quickly without absorbing oil. Fry in small batches to avoid crowding and temperature drops.
