Ingredients
  

Base
  • 1 package sponge cake or ladyfingers, cut or broken into pieces
Filling
  • 2 cups custard (store-bought or homemade)
Topping
  • 2 cups whipped cream
  • 1 cup mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
Optional
  • 1/2 cup fruit juice or sherry for added flavor
  • chocolate shavings or extra fruit for topping optional garnish

Method
 

Assembly
  1. Cut the sponge cake or ladyfingers into pieces and place a layer at the bottom of a large glass trifle bowl.
  2. Drizzle with fruit juice or sherry if using.
  3. Add a layer of custard over the cake.
  4. Add a layer of mixed berries on top of the custard.
  5. Repeat the layers until the bowl is full, finishing with a layer of whipped cream on top.
  6. Garnish with chocolate shavings or extra fruit.
  7. Chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving.

Notes

Serve chilled with a sprig of mint or powdered sugar. Great with tea or coffee. Use quality ingredients for better flavor. You can add chocolate chips or nuts for extra texture.
