Ingredients

For the Focaccia

  • 4 cups All-purpose flour Regular flour or bread flour can be used.
  • 2 teaspoons Instant yeast Active dry yeast can be substituted but requires proofing.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Adjust based on taste preference.
  • 3 tablespoons Sugar Can use granulated sugar or coconut sugar.
  • 1 cup Warm water Temperature should be around 110°F (43°C).
  • 1/4 cup Olive oil Extra virgin olive oil offers better flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons Ground cinnamon Feel free to use more for a stronger flavor.
  • 1/4 cup Brown sugar White sugar can be used but won't have the same flavor depth.
  • Coarse sea salt To taste, enhances flavor and adds a crunchy texture.
  • Butter For brushing, use unsalted butter for better control of salt levels.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, mix the flour, yeast, salt, and sugar.
  • Add the warm water and olive oil; mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
  • Place the dough in an oiled bowl; cover and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Roll out the dough on a parchment-lined baking sheet to about 1 inch thick.
  • Spread melted butter over the surface.
  • Mix cinnamon and brown sugar; sprinkle over the top of the dough.
  • Use your fingers to create dimples in the dough.
  • Sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  • Let it rest for another 30 minutes.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

Ensure your water is warm (110°F) to activate the yeast effectively. Knead thoroughly and cover while cooling for a softer crust. Feel free to experiment with additional toppings such as nuts or dried fruits.
