  • 1 cup Cooked rice Use brown rice for a healthier twist.
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) Diced tomatoes Fire-roasted diced tomatoes can add a nice smokiness.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce This adds depth to the flavor; tamari is a gluten-free alternative.
  • To taste Salt and pepper Season generously for best flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Dried thyme Fresh thyme can be used, adjusting the quantity to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika Smoked paprika adds a nice depth of flavor.

Instructions
 

Preparation Phase

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

Cooking Phase

  • Brown the ground beef with the chopped onion and minced garlic over medium heat in a large skillet. Drain excess fat.
  • Stir in the chopped cabbage, tomato sauce, cooked rice, diced tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook until the cabbage is tender, about 10 minutes.

Baking Phase

  • Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 30-35 minutes.
  • Remove from the oven, let cool for a few minutes, then serve.

Notes

Use lean ground beef to reduce excess fat for a healthier dish. Ensure the cabbage is finely chopped to help it cook down well. Add more vegetables like bell peppers or carrots for extra nutrition. Stir in a bit of sour cream or cream cheese before baking for creaminess. Letting the casserole sit before serving enhances the flavors.
