  • 8 slices bacon

Pastry

  • 1 package puff pastry (thawed if frozen)

Egg wash

  • 1 egg egg (for egg wash)

Seasonings & extras

  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper
  • optional maple syrup for variations

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly flour a clean surface and unroll or roll out the puff pastry.
  • Cut the pastry into strips about 1 inch wide so they are easy to twist and wrap.

Wrapping

  • Take a slice of bacon and twist it around each pastry strip, wrapping evenly from one end to the other.
  • Place the twists on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Finishing

  • Beat the egg and brush it over the twists for a golden finish.
  • Season the twists with salt and pepper.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden and crispy.
  • Remove from the oven and serve warm — enjoy!

Notes

Keep pastry cold until you’re ready to work to ensure maximum flakiness. Use slightly undercooked bacon if you prefer less shrinkage during baking. Brush egg wash lightly to avoid soggy bottoms and get a shiny crust. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days and re-crisp in the oven.
